A Story From the Youth From the After School Program

Over the months of November and December, I have been working with the youth at The Center After School Program in Springfield, Massachusetts and they have created their own short story. I want to say thank you to the Center ~ After School Program for giving me the opportunity to work with some of Springfield, MA best and brightest kids. They have inspired me in such a short time and they have shown me the true power of telling stories by creating one of their own. I am honored and humbled to be in their presence because they are the future and the main reason why I continue to write my stories. Once again, thank you to the kids for everything. Here is their story.

The Invasion of Masquerade

Announcer: Touchdown! K. Blaze scores the winning touchdown and the Little Packers win the championship.

Narrator: The team runs on to the field and pick K. Blaze up and put him on their shoulders. Everyone is cheering. As they celebrate their victory in the championship game, a message is beeping on K. Blaze’s watch phone.

K. Blaze: What’s up Krystal?

Krystal: There is an emergency and I really need your help!

K. Blaze: What’s wrong? Is it serious?

Krystal: A meteor is speeding towards the planet and it doesn’t look good at all.

K. Blaze: Okay, I’ll be right there.

Krystal: Okay, Hurry!

Narrator: As K. Blaze is carried off of the field, he doesn’t even head for the locker room to change. He goes straight to the parking lot and unlocks his bike and rushes down the street towards Krystal’s house. As he reaches the back door, he quickly places his hand on the door scanner. After a few seconds, his identification is accepted and the door opens. He enters and notices Krystal pacing nervously.

K. Blaze: Okay, where is this meteor that you’re talking about?

Krystal: It’s about 5 minutes away from Earth.

K. Blaze: How do you think we can stop it?

Krystal: Let’s look at the computer and see how.

Narrator: K. Blaze looks at the computer and notices a meteor speeding towards Earth. He looks closer and notices that it’s not a meteor but a spaceship and it is carrying someone inside of it.

K. Blaze: Krystal, that’s not a meteor, it’s a spaceship and someone is inside of it.

Krystal: What are you talking about? Let me take a look.

Narrator: After Krystal, the computer screen changes and a face of an evil villain quickly appears.

Masquerade: WATCH OUT! I’m coming to take over Earth!

K. Blaze: Who are you and what do you want with us?

Masquerade: I am Masquerade and I’m coming to wipe out the human race.

Krystal: What did we ever do to you?

Masquerade: Earth’s human race is better than mine so I want to destroy all people so that my race will be the strongest in the universe.

Narrator: The screen goes blank, leaving K. Blaze and Krystal, looking worried. Krystal runs over to another computer to try to figure out how much time they have until the evil Masquerade lands on the planet.

Krystal: We only have two minutes and forty-five seconds left until that evil beast gets here.

K. Blaze: We have to figure out something to stop him.

Krystal: I might have something that will work.

Narrator: Krystal runs over to one to her fashion lab and types in a code, 1-3X-99F-07-SB42-PS83.

K. Blaze: What in the world does that mean?

Krsytal: I found a way to create a super hero suit.

Narrator: Within a few seconds, a rumbling takes place in one of Krystal, lab pods. After the rumbling stops, the door opens. Inside of the pod is a Blue and Red power suit and a silver, power skateboard. It is the exact size as K. Blaze:

K. Blaze: This is awesome! Is that suit for me?

Krystal: Yes, this is a special power suit that will give you some serious super powers to defeat Masquerade.

K. Blaze: This is way too awesome! How does it work?

Krystal: Just put on the clothes and you will find out.

K. Blaze: Okay, I’ll be right back.

Narrator: K. Blaze quickly runs and grabs the power suit and runs into the dressing room. He quickly takes off his football pads and puts on the power suit. After a few seconds, he steps out of the dressing room, wearing the power suit. As he lifts his arms, the suit lights up and the power skate board starts to float off of the ground.

Krystal: The skateboard will help you to float just in case Masquerade knows how to fly.

K. Blaze: So how will I be able to stay on the board?

Krystal: Your power suit will keep you on it. They are linked together with my super code.

K. Blaze: Okay, so do I have any super powers to go with all of this cool stuff?

Krystal: Yes and I have a computer that will give those powers during your battle.

K. Blaze: This is awesome! I can’t wait to try this stuff out.

Narrator: Krystal runs back over to the computer to check the time left until Masquerade lands and also looks to see where he is going to be.

Krystal: He’s going to land in about fifteen seconds. We have to hurry!

K. Blaze: Where is he going to be?

Krystal: It looks like Masquerade is going to land at the skateboard park. We only have about ten seconds left.

K. Blaze: Okay, I’m gone!

Narrator: Krystal and K. Blaze run out of her lab. K. Blaze jumps onto his power skateboard and shoots off towards the skateboard park. Krystal jumps on her speed bike and follows closely behind. The both are ready to face this evil villain. As soon as they arrive at the skateboard park, Krystal notices the sky quickly turning dark.

Krystal: K. Blaze, look up into the sky!

K. Blaze: Whoa! Why is it getting so dark?

Krystal: Masquerade is turning everything black. He’s ready to attack our planet.

K. Blaze: Okay then. I’m ready to face him.

Narrator: K. Blaze raises his hands, making his power suit light up again. His body is filled with a huge amount of energy. Krystal pushes a button on her bike, making it turn into a miniature computer, so that she can help increase K. Blazes power through the battle:

Krystal: Your suit is now powered up and ready to go.

K. Blaze: LET’S GET IT ON!

Narrator: Within seconds, Masquerade’s spaceship breaks through the clouds and lands right next to the skateboard park. The doors quickly open and out steps the evil villain.

Masquerade: Hello you disgusting aliens, it is time for you all to meet your doom!

K. Blaze: Who do you think you are? I’m going to destroy you before you ever get a chance to take over our planet.

Masquerade: Seriously? You destroy me? Ha, ha, ha ha! You’re so puny that I’m going to crush you like a bug!

K. Blaze: You’ll have to catch me first!

Masquerade: You think that you can outrun me? There is no way that will ever happen.

Krystal: I can power him up more than you can think of. My power suit is unbeatable.

Masquerade: Ha, ha, ha, ha! Let’s go! You both will lose!

K. Blaze: BRING IT THEN!

Narrator: Before K. Blaze could say another word, Masquerade charged towards him. Krystal quickly pushes a button on her computer, making K. Blaze jump over the charging Villain with is power skateboard.

K. Blaze: Whoa! You missed! There is now way that you will defeat us.

Krystal: I told you so. My technology can’t be defeated.

Masquerade: YOU’RE GOING TO PAY FOR THIS!

K. Blaze: Are you serious? You will never touch me!

Masquerade: Get ready to face my wrath!

K. Blaze: You will not defeat me!

Narrator: As K. Blaze floated back towards the skateboard park, he quickly starts to skate around the course, towards Masquerade. Without hesitation, Masquerade shoots his laser beams towards K. Blaze. As he does, Krystal puts a protective armor around K. Blaze’s power suit. K. Blaze dodges the laser beams as he get’s closer.

Masquerade: That was just a taste of my powers. I’m not even trying.

Krystal: Well watch this! Talk all you want but you are no match for us.

Masquerade: Little girl, you better watch your mouth!

K. Blaze: Don’t you talk to my friend like that! I’ll give you and that ugly face a fat lip if you say another word.

Masquerade: I can talk to you disgusting humans any way that I want. You are nothing to me.

K. Blaze: Let’s see about that!

Narrator: K. Blaze is just a few feet away from the evil villain. Masquerade jumps into the sky to avoid him and floats over towards Krystal. As he does, he shoots a laser beam at her computer, making it explode.

K. Blaze (Screams): NOOOOO!

KABOOM!

Narrator: Krystal’s computer explodes into millions of pieces.

Krystal: Oh no! My computer! The power suit can’t work now!

K. Blaze: My suit! My powers are gone! What am I going to do now!

Krystal: I have to try and figure something out. Try to distract him if you can.

Masquerade: What a shame. My next move is going to turn you into space dust.

Narrator: Masquerade quickly turns to K. Blaze and notices that his power suit’s light has gone out. He quickly rushes towards K. Blaze as he skates away from him. Krystal quickly pulls out her cell phone and takes it a part. She works with the pieces as she watches K. Blaze avoid the evil villain.

Krystal: Keep him away from you! I’m working on it as fast as I can.

K. Blaze: Hurry up! He’s getting way to close.

Krystal: I think that I almost got it.

K. Blaze: I hope that it works! This is really bad Krystal.

Masquerade: Fools! My life form is stronger than yours and it’s time that I prove it. You both will lose this battle!

Narrator: As Masquerade notices that K. Blaze is still too fast to catch, he tries his best to blow up his skateboard. K. Blaze jumps over the skateboard parks obstacle’s and avoids the evil villain’s attacks. Krystal is working as fast as she can to put together a small computer to boost K. Blaze’s power before it’s too late. Just as Masquerade shoots one last blast, Krystal stands up and shouts:

Krystal: I GOT IT!

K. Blaze: OH YEAH! My powers are back!

Krystal: Let’s attack him now!

Narrator: Krystal pushes a button and the light on K. Blaze’s suit reappears. He quickly blocks Masquerade’s blasts as he lands on one to the skateboard ramps.

K. Blaze: Man that was weak!

Masquerade: I didn’t put everything into that blast.

K. Blaze: You should have tried harder because your time is up.

Masquerade: Now it is time for you to be defeated, you puny humans!

Narrator: K. Blaze jumps back onto his skateboard and shoots towards Masquerade as fast as he can. Without knowing what to do, Masquerade is quickly punched in his stomach by a powerful punch.

BANG.

Narrator: The punch knocks him out of the sky, right into the middle of the skate park.

K. Blaze: What are you going to say now? Who’s puny now?

Masquerade: YOU’RE GOING TO PAY FOR DOING THAT TO ME!

K. Blaze: It’s time for me to finish this.

Krystal: Then let’s finish him the right way. I’m done with this beast!

Narrator: K. Blaze quickly attacks Masquerade. As he gets closer, Krystal makes two rocket launchers appear on K. Blaze’s power suit. He quickly shoots them at Maquerade.

KABOOM! KABOOM! KABOOM! KABOOM!

Narrator: The ground around Masquerade explodes, shooting him high into the sky.

Krystal: O.M.G.! You got him!

K. Blaze: He’s done! This battle is over!

Narrator: Within a few seconds, Masquerade lands back on the ground. He quickly crawls back into his spaceship.

Masquerade: I’ll be back, you disgusting humans. Next time won’t be so easy. I will be stronger.

K. Blaze: Then we will see you soon and we will be ready.

Krystal: Leave now, you puny alien. You are no match for us.

Masquerade: THIS IS NOT OVER! I’LL BE BACK! I WILL BE BACK!

Narrator: The doors close to the spaceship and quickly shoots off of the planet back into outer space.

Krystal: You did it K. Blaze. You defeated Masquerade.

K. Blaze: No, we did it Krystal. We did it together.

Narrator: They both shake hands and head back to the lab, happy that they both just saved the planet from the evil Masquerade. Earth is safe…for now.

EXPLAINING MY WRITING PROCESS FOR THE MENZUO S.W. SERIES

The Development of the Menzuo ~ Solar Warrior’s Series

Many people ask me how I went about developing my Menzuo ~ Solar Warrior’s series. I am going to do my best to answer this question that is so frequently asked. Here we go….

HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE STORY AND CONCEPT FOR YOUR MENZUO?

Back in 1996, while my best friend, Marcus McDowell was in the Baystate Medical hospital, battling cancer, I visited him every day. While there, we used to create our own short comics to ease his mind from dealing with the pains of his cancer. We both wanted to create the ultimate superhero that kids could grow up with. This superhero would have all of the best super powers and would become the ultimate superhero, ever created, hence the birth of Menzuo.

I created the biography of Menzuo, and Marcus illustrated the character. We also created an entirely new universe with other warriors and super villains. Our time getting lost in each character and action scene, completely made him forget about his pain. Unfortunately, Marcus passed away eleven months later, just before Christmas and never got to see the completion any of the stories.

After Marcus passed, each of the characters that we created stuck with me. It was as if I had a running movie playing in my head, and I had to get it out.

Being a huge fan of superheroes and fantasy, the concept of putting a story together became a fun and healing project for me as I tried to deal with that huge loss in my life. I didn’t want to create a comic book. I wanted to create a superhero, chapter book. This was my mission and the best way for me to express my story.

I loked at all of the characters that we created within the eleven months and I also added a few characters to the story, to make it flow the way that I wanted it to. This is where the process started. So, here is how it all started for me…

• I put a layout of all of the characters that were created for this story in front of me (this was the beginning of my brainstorming process).

• I thought of a story to develop around all of the characters and especially the main character (give each character a background and purpose).

• I created an outline of my story (conflict, resolution, structure of the story, ending, then the beginning ‘very important’, significance of each character in the story, then select a title)

• I start the story with an ending. This part changed several times by the time I got to the ‘so called’ end of the story.

• Now it was time to write. I started with the entrance of the main character into the story (first draft)

• I didn’t worry about breaking up the chapters at this point as I just let the story flow (this process took about six months for me to complete)

• After reading the first draft, I typed it out. Oh yeah, my first manuscript was written out in pencil on paper. VERY OLD SCHOOL.

• During the second draft, I started to break up the book into chapters. I came to find that many things that I wrote didn’t flow or were in the wrong place. I had to maneuver parts of the story to make it continuously consistent with what I wanted.

• After the second draft was complete, it was time to read over the story and make my own changes (as you can see, this is a very long process).

• After editing my own story, I worked on the third draft of the story (now I have put together the book the way that I wanted but I wasn’t done).

• After I completed the third draft, it was time to re-read it again. I looked for any inconsistencies in the story and also if each chapter described what was written in them.

• After I was satisfied with my work, it was time to create the title. This was the fun part. It came down to three titles that I came up with but in the end, I chose: Menzuo in the Calling of the Sun Prince.

So this was my process of creating my first book. As the story ended, I purposely left many unanswered questions in the story. This kept my mind active on creating more. Once I saw that I had more stories to tell, I knew that I wanted to create my own series. I started the same process over, with the above bulleted outline. For me it was great to have created a biography of each character for the first book. This made it much easier to develop a theme for the rest of my books.

After a couple of months, I had an outline for several stories within my series. I saw that I had become addicted to writing and wanted to make each story come full circle. I had to keep writing. My writing process began for my second book: Menzuo S.W. (Solar Warriors) Legend of the Blue Diamond, shortly after.

With everything in front of me, the outline and the characters this story flowed effortlessly.

The best thing that happened after I published my first book, Menzuo in the Calling of the sun Prince, I was able to hook up with some great friends, who were willing to take my characters to the next level. Kein Bailey worked with me on the second book and helped develop many of the new characters and some of the old ones for the story. I later met Carl Harrison, who has taken my characters to unchartered territories.

With the help of Carl, Menzuo and the Solar Warrior’s have grown from just a dream, to a true reality.

Well…I hope that this has answered the question of the development of my Menzuo S.W. series. Please look out for my next blog as I answer the question of how I created the Heroes and Villains within the Menzuo S.W. series.

My Views on Education in Springfield, MA

Earlier this week, it was reported in a new study, it showed that public schools in Boston and Springfield were among the most racially segregated in the nation. The Northeastern University report found that of the 100 large metropolitan area school systems it examined, Springfield ranked second behind Los Angeles for the most segregated for Latino students, while Boston ranked fourth in the same category. When it came to the segregation of black students, Springfield was ninth and Boston was 28th (masslive.com). This is a sad report to see as Springfield has a huge diverse population. Unfortunately when the city decided to move to neighborhood boundary schools, it put this report in motion.

As Springfield does have a very diverse population, its neighborhoods are not as diverse. It is seen though the city, from Sixteen Acres, which is predominantly white to the Mason Square area, which is the predominantly African American area of the City. The North End of the city is where the predominant Hispanic population is. As you can just see from how the city is broken up, going to the boundary schools quickly puts the structure of segregation in motion.

My issue with this boundary school system is that the majority of the underperforming schools are located in the minority sections of Springfield, MA. These schools are not adequately equipped and the teachers have less to work with than other schools in the “so called better areas” of the city. Our children are not only separated by race but also with educational tools. If you ever get the chance to compare the schools in these various areas, you would be disgusted that our children are even attending these schools.

Some children in the “better” schools have computers, their own books and learning centers equipped to help them do better. Other schools barely have enough paper to survive through the entire school year. These drastic differences in our school system is a shame as we see more and more school moving to the underperforming status each year.

As a former teacher, I truly understand the pain that these teachers and Principal’s deal with on a daily basis. I was once told that most passionate teachers leave after three years because of the stress of the job and the lack of support that they get from their administration. In the Springfield Public School system, many teachers left because of the lack of receiving the proper pay raises. Simple cost of living raise’s to survive. That was the main reason that I had to leave the system. I love and miss being a teacher but I have found my niche as an author to continue to strengthen our children’s education.

I believe that it is time that we start to look at our children’s education on both levels: #1 In the classroom; #2 Outside of the classroom. For #1, giving our children equal opportunity to succeed, no matter what school they are at. I do not and will not agree with neighborhood boundary schools until each school is given the equal amount of recourses. As for #2, our children live in a very diverse neighborhood and not allowing them to experience the diversity that they have is a cultural disgrace.

I grew up in the Springfield Public Schools when there were no boundary schools and had a melting pot of friends. I was able to grow up without seeing color as an issue. Our children cannot fully get a true education without experiencing cultural difference. THAT’S WHY WE HAVE PUBLIC SCHOOLS!!! We need to rethink thinks and stop worrying about MCAS Scores. Strengthen our schools by supporting them with diversity and proper equipment. Springfield should NEVER be on this list.

WOW!!!

Okay, the re-release event for Menzuo in the Calling of the Sun Prince was a great success. The event was packed and I sold a lot of books. I have to say that in my eyes, I had a VERY successful night. I am so thankful that so many people came out to support my event. God has truly blessed me with this talent and I was able to share it with so many people.

I'd like to say thank you to my illustrator, Carl Harrison for coming out and doing his thang last night. He did character sketches for all of the kids at the event and even for some adults. This young man is SO talented and I am only lucky to have caught him on his way up.

The event started at 6:30pm and ended right on time 8:00pm. everyone stayed and got the opportunity to hear excerps from both of my books, Menzuo in the Calling of the Sun Prince and Menzuo S.W. Legend of the Blue Diamond. Everyone was so in to the story that I had to read more, just to fill the need of my work.

The support from Springfield, MA was tremendous and I could not have asked for a better night. As I reflect on the night, there will always be some things that I will improve on and some other things that I will try not to do (example: Cry when talking about my best friend Marcus McDowell LOL!!!) but all in all, I will always treat my events as a tool to continueto educate everyone in attendance.

Menzuo is back and moving forward. Now on the the next event. Springfield, MA...hold me up as I represent my city in the brightest light.

My Road to Scholastic!!!

Well, as I am getting ready for the re-release of my book series, I just took this little time to look back at the humble beginnings of my Menzuo S.W. Series. As it started in the Baystate Hospital, in1996, my best friend, Marcu McDowell, I am actually seeing everything clearly. It feels like I hacve been reborn with this project and I have a new spirit to  continue writing.

My journey with this series will be called, "My road to Scholastic." It is called this becuase I am going on an intense journey to get Scholastic to publish my book series within the next year. This means that I have to stay focused and present each book that I put out as the next best thing for our youth to read.

I have a great team of people that have dedicted their time to help my out in the process. From my illustrator, Carl Harrison, My marketing team: Beatrice Dewberry-O'Quinn and Natalia Munoz, my brother in-law, Carl Skeene, who is creating the Website, and my editor, Laurie Macy. With these people in place, I feel like the sky is the limit.

I hope that you all are rooting for me because, I am not making this journey on my own. I will need all of the support that I can get from each and every one of you. My success depends on the support from my city, and beyond. I hope that every one jumps on the band wagon because there is a lot of room.

WISH ME LUCK!!!

PROGRESS! 3,000 BOOKS IS THE GOAL!

It has only been three weeks since I have been on my mission to raise the much needed capital to move forward with the Menzuo S.W. series, and I must say that I am truly humbled by the people and companies that have stepped up and supported me with my initial run of getting my books out to our youth. I stepped out on faith and with God’s help things are really falling into place, better than I could have ever expected them to. I am so excited to unveil the Menzuo series and conduct as many book signings and readings in the near future.
I have been given the task of selling 3,000 books over the next three years of each of the books that I release. That means that with the re-release of book #2 in November, Menzuo S.W. Legend of the Blue Diamond, and the release of Menzuo S.W. Judgment Set Upon Earth in February, I will have to sell a total of 9,000 books. I do not see this as an impossible task because I truly believe that every child that can read or would like to read should have this book in their home. I believe in Menzuo and hopefully, my fan base will continue to grow and more and more people will believe in him to.

Wish me luck as I get closer to the release date. This is going to be a heck of a ride and it only gets better from here on out.

Reaching a Goal of Raising $2,500 in Two Months

Well, here it is. I am at ground zero, starting from scratch and looking for business and people to sponsor my mission to educate our youth through my books. If you know me, you will know that I am very serious when it comes to pushing the value of education. I have a great product in my books, The Menzuo S.W. Series and I know that it is an effective tool to help people understand the value of reading. I believe that my books can be a great catalyst for youth to begin to appreciate reading and also picking up other books to read.

I am looking to raise $2,500 from sponsors over the next two months. The money raised will help me to have the needed books on hand to sell and give away to prize winners, to have the needed promotional material to help sell my books and also it will help to cover the costs of conventions that I have been invited to attend in the near future.

This investment of $2,500 will help me to get the Menzzuo S.W. series out and be able to help me get things running in the right direction. I know that I believe in my product and I need t have many other people believe in it as well. If you are interested or know of someone who may be interested in sponsoring an author, please contact me at: keshawndodds@gmail.com. Thank you and wish me luck!!!

Moving Forward with the Book Series

Now I can take that huge sigh of relief. The re-release of book number 1, Menzuo in the Calling of the Sun Prince was a complete success. I will have the first copies of it, in hand by the end of this week. The book signing will be coming soon and I hope to have as many people as possible there to support my project. With all of this going on, the Menzuo S.W. series is moving forward in a very positive way.

Book #3, Menzuo S.W. Judgment Set Upon Earth has been fully edited, formatted and now will be sent to the illustrator, Carl Harrison to add the pictures to the book, to bring the words to life. This process will take about a month and a half because Carl is a true perfectionist and will only put out his best work. His artwork makes the Menzuo S.W. series boom.

With the process of the illustrations being complete for book #3, Carl Harrison is also creating the first ever animated series of the Menzuo S.W. character and my nephew Josh Dodds is creating the background music to go with it. It is with hopes to have the cartoon out just before Christmas. My input in the scenes with Carl Harrison will be crucial and we hope that it will grab your attention.

Now, we are doing all of this with the smallest budget ever known to God but with all of your support and donations, we know that we can produce the best product that Springfield, MA & Connecticut could be proud of.

Carl Harrison and I will hold a two hour meeting to go over the illustrations for book #3 and I hope that I can send you all a sneak peak of his work. Once again, thank you all for your support and continue to support be because supporting me, means that you are supporting my mission to strengthen our youth’s education.

Loss of a Great Man!

On the Morning of June 9, 2010, this world allowed a great man to enter the after-life and has been welcomed by the Lord back into his home. Douglas Skinner, the father of my best friend and brother, Marcus McDowell, the father to my other brother, Alonzo McDowell, and also my other father ended his battle with cancer. Dad has been a solid rock and a true example of how a man should be as he grows through the years. As I grew into the man that I am today, I can truly say that he played an intricle part in my development into manhood.

At the age of seven, I lost my father, King Dodds to cancer and lost one great man. But as the years have past, Douglas Skinner along with my step-father Alex O'Neil picked up the slack and carried me in ways that no other man could do for someone elses child. Dad, 'Douggy' never left my side or ever let me feel that I didn't have a father even though my blood father was gone.

He tought me tough life lessons and even laid the belt to my bottom when needed. He never once looked at me as someone elses child. I was and always will be his son. He made space in his heart for me and cared for me as if I was his blood. He is the true example what a man is to be.

As I think of all of the things that Doug has done for me through the years, I can honestly say that he was my true hero. He believed in me even when I didn't believe in myself. He pushed me even when I didn't think that I could take another step. He carried me when I couldn't walk. He is my father and I love him forever.

I know now that Doug is sitting with his son Marcus and my father King looking down at us and smiling. I can still hear the words coming from him. "Son, I love you, I love you, I love, I love you. You have made me so proud and I am a better man because of it."

Even though we are a part, we will see each other again and will be able to laugh and sing and be together. I will not say goodbye but, see you later because that's what I will do. I love you dad and "See you later."

New Beginnings Bring Great Things!!!

With the highly anticipated re-release of Menzuo in the Calling of the Sun Prince, I myself and my illustrator, Carl Harrison have been working hard to put out the best possible project for 2010. New chapters and better illustrations will be added to enhance the reading of this book. The new chapters will help bring the story to life. Carl Harrison, is a great addition to the Menzuo-Solar Warriors team. His illustrations are top-notch and surpass any expectations that I could have ever wanted or my book series. After witnessing his work as he created characters right before my eyes, I have nothing to say but, "He is a true genius and gifted artist."

Also with the addition of the new illustrations, Carl Harrison has created the first ever animated production for the Menzuo-Solar Warriors series. With the implementation of the animated series, it truly brings the Menzuo-Solar Warriors series to life. Readers of all ages can now enjoy seeing my characters in motion, making you all want to read the series to get a more indepth feel of what my stories are about.

If this doesn't make you want to become a fan of the series, then maybe you need your blood sugar checked!!! Me and my team are ready to start this Educational Revolution through my books and we need soldiers on board with us.

If you would like to pre-order a copy of the re-release of Menzuo in the Calling of the Sun Prince, please contact me at: keshawndodds@gmail.com

Here are Some Past Reviews of my first Book

An amazing first effort by Springfield’s own Keshawn Dodds, this children’s tale combines all of the good qualities we wish to see in our children (and parents) with adventure and outright fun. It takes us back to a time when childhood was enjoyed by all and reminds us of how children used to settle disputes peaceably and fairly and how we love to root for the good guy.

The book’s message is timeless but it receives its update in the parlance and setting of today’s video game world in the form of a virtual reality tournament, where the hero, Menzuo, represents the fight of good over evil. This superhero reminded me of my childhood hero, Superman (Clark Kent), as Menzuo (Jammal) first trains to learn to use his powers and then fights to keep earth and the rest of the solar system from being destroyed by Morbid, the evil Pirate Warrior.

My hat is off to Keshawn, a product of the Springfield public schools, a former high school football star, and currently an elementary school teacher. The first book, in what he plans to be a series, about the exploits of Menzuo, it reminds us about what is possible. It teaches tolerance between the races--Menzuo (Jammal’s) two best friends are White and Hispanic. It shows the importance of family values as exemplified by Jammal’s adoptive parents. It reminds us of how to settle differences without violence, the Solar Warriors vs. the Sharp Shooters. It promotes equality between the sexes, the Solar Warriors vs. the Blade Runners. And it demonstrates that good always triumphs over evil.

African American Point of View Newspaper

I actually picked up Menzuo in the Calling of the Sun Prince at a bookfair by accident and decided to test it out…Now, this book will delight children - especially ones that complain about their being a lack of African-American heroes they can relate to, or if they enjoyed anime/manga like Sailor Moon or shows like Teen Titans, since this can easily fall in the magical girl/boy or superpowered kid genre. The words are easy enough for a 9 or 13 year old to grasp and the story will keep them going… It’s a good quick read for a rainy day at least…The author has very unique ideas and I look forward to reading more from him.

This book was excellent! It captures your interest from the minute you open it and keeps readers glued to the pages from the very first chapter all the way through to the end. It is about a boy who found out that his life on Earth was more important than he thought. The main character learns that he is actually from another planet and that his duty is to protect Earth an evil pirate warrior. He eventually has a battle with the pirate warrior that will ultimately decide the fate of Earth. If you like action then this book is for you!

Dr. Bobbie Rennix – Former Elementary School Principal

Very interesting storyline, with very good character development. Good 'real life' dialouge, doesn't sound made up like other kids books......great book for youngsters, though I enjoyed it myself, and will use it for my elementary school classes. Can also help with vocabulary skills with good symbolism throughout the book and with the characters names. The book was read to my class (5th grade) and all the students looked forward to hearing it every day. Good action and interesting story, I highly recommend it to both adults and children.

This is one of my favorite books. I read this book a month ago when it was available at Barnes & Noble and I just wanted to write this review and tell everyone how good this book was! This was my first Super Hero book and it certainly isn¿t my last. Word of caution though: when you sit down to read this book make sure you have a lot of time for you won¿t be able to put this book down. I felt that this book was refreshing, inspirational, easy to read, high energy, full of action and very enlightening. Enjoyable reading for all ages¿ I loved this book. It was great fun reading it and wished it never ended. I am anxiously waiting for the next series 'Menzuo in the Legend of the Blue Diamond' (Solar Warriors). One of the best books I have ever read! This is a book that you will read again and again.

Menzuo in the Calling of the Sun Prince was a very good book for me to read. I went to Keshawn Dodds' book release party with my family. After hearing him speak, my parents bought the book for me. I started reading it on Thursday and finished reading it on Saturday. I couldn't put it down. Now my mom and dad are reading it. We all can't wait to read the next book, 'Menzuo in the Legend of the Blue Diamond.' I can't wait to see what Menzuo gets into in the next six books.

Re-Publishing Book #1 of the Menzuo-Solar Warriors Series in June of 2010

It has been a long seven years but as of May 2010, PublishAmerica has returned the rights to my book, 'Menzuo in the Calling of the Sun Prince," back to me. It was great to have the opportunity to be a published author under PublishAmerica but I feel that I will have greater success moving forward being able to publish my series on my own.

With the re-release of the first book of my juvenile fiction series, the readers will be able to see the changes that have been made to the book. The addition of new illustrations and greater detailed information about the storyline brings the book to new heights.

I have been working with illustrator, Carl harrison (http://www.houseofcarl.blogspot.com/) with the recreation of the book, Carl has taken this opportunity to and brought Menzuo to new heights. His extraordinary work will keep the readers enticed throughout the book. His illustrations brings the story together like never before.

I am also greatful to have the opportunity to work with and learn from Joe Young of 'Young Studios World' out of Hartford, CT (http://www.youngstudiosworld.com/). It is with great hope that with his guidance, Carl and I will be able to animate Menzuo in the next year.

Please be on the lookout for the re-release of Menzuo in the Calling of the Sun Prince. You can also purchase the second book of the series, Menzuo S.W. Solar Warriors Legend of the Blue Diamond at http://www.iuniverse.com/ or through me.

This is a great new beginning for me as I prepare to release the third installment of my series in October. Menzuo-Solar Warriors, Judgment Set Upon Earth is complete and the final touches are being applied.

Many hidden secrets about his life are revealed. Jammal’s real birth name, information about his parents, and his true identity come to light. He also comes to find that Earth is in grave danger and that it is under attack by an evil Pirate Warrior named Morbid who is in search of the energy of all good and evil.

With the help from his protector Solar and his new trainer master Renzfly, Jammal quickly realizes that he does not have to face this battle alone. He must protect planet Earth and the energy of all good and evil, while trying to live a life as a normal kid. Vidoegames, crushes and neighborhood bullies play a big role in helping to distract Jammal while he awaits his date of destiny which is his twelfth birthday.

Jammal must prepare himself for the most important test of his life, and it is not in the classroom. Jammal must succeed or the Dark Warrior will control the energy of all good and evil. His battle against Morbid will decide the fate of Earth and possibly the entire universe.

Book #2

iUniverse – December 2005

When Jammal, a.k.a. Menzuo—the hero of the thrilling first book of the Menzuo S.W. (Solar Warriors) series—found out that he was adopted and from another planet, his true destiny as the new universal protector was revealed. With his guardian, Solar, and trainer, Master Renzfly, Jammal quickly gained the knowledge of the Yardanian combat style and important information about the structure of the universe. In his first mission, Menzuo saved the Earth from one very dangerous Pirate Warrior named Morbid.
Now Menzuo is ready to continue his preparation to become the true universal protector. As he trains with Solar by his side, under Master Renzfly’s watchful eye, a mysterious messenger from the outer realm interrupts his progress and begs for Menzuo’s help to save planet Bralose.
Unexpected changes occur as Menzuo finds that he’s not prepared to battle Hydrosion. This realization brings the dawn of a group called the Solar Warriors. But how will Menzuo gain the confidence and strength needed to defeat the Pirate Warrior Hydrosion? Only time will tell as Menzuo does his best to protect his universe.

Book #3
Menzuo S.W. Judgment Set Upon Earth

Our universal protector Menzuo, now has a team of allies who strongly believe in his mission. This new team of Solar Warriors, formed by Allucio (Michael Santiago), Dezmurose (Jeffery O’Connor), Princess Amiata, Nuncio, King Scoop, Wyler and Master Renzfly, have dedicated themselves to help Menzuo protect the universe. After Menzuo won a hard fought battle against Pirate Warrior Hydrosion, the people of planet Bralose are now safe from a mutated life of slavery. Because of his selflessness, our young warrior comes to find that planet Earth has now been overtaken by one of the strongest of all Pirate Warriors, queen Eaizah.

Pirate Warrior Hydrosion’s reign of terror over planet Bralose was just the distraction that queen Eaizah needed to begin her takeover of Earth. With no one to protect the planet, she does what a Pirate does best, destroy everything in sight. Gearing up for the battle of their lives, prince Menzuo and the Solar Warriors must stay focused if they are to have any chance at saving the planet along with defeating queen Eaizah.

Book #4
Menzuo S.W. A Warriors Destiny

With the stalling tactics of King Eojtaf and Ambassador Naos, our heroin, prince Menzuo and the Solar Warriors were able to successfully defeat queen Eaizah and her Pirate Drones to save planet Earth. With keeping his promise to master Budokane, Menzuo must travel back to Legerdemain to train with him. He must learn to harness all of his new found energy and to become one with the energy from the Blue Diamond. With Solar, now alive and with his old body, the two warriors must face the death world with confidence. If they survive, they will have a chance to save the universe, but if they fail…
~
Meanwhile, trouble has come to light within the universe with the release of the Banor’s. The poisoned warriors of Yardania and hundreds of other life forms were exiled in a black hole thousands of years ago, with just enough evil energy reviving his body, lord Fetid created a tear in the outer realm of the universe and allowed the Banor’s to re-enter the real and infect and destroy all living warriors.

With Menzuo occupied, the team of Solar Warriors must fight this battle on their own, and with planet Excervo getting stronger each and every day, it is not known how strong our warriors will be when facing such an unknown evil.

With information coming from an unlikely source, one of our warriors must make a decision that will initiate the fate of the universe. Are they up for the challenge without Menzuo by their side? Only time will tell.

Book #5
Menzuo S.W. Friend or Foe

Six years later, at the age of eighteen, Menzuo re-entered the universe just one year before lord Fetid’s true return. He finds nothing in his known universe to be like it was when he left. Because of the past events, the people of Earth now know all of the inner workings of the evil that lurks throughout the universe.
